Up-and-coming Swiss artist Nikolai Winter raised an artistic finger in welcome to the park of the Baur au Lac last fall. His works give the impression of being vacuum-packed, wrapping expensive and everyday consumer items in what appears to be gold or silver foil. «Most products' lifecycles are growing shorter all the time,» Winter notes, «so vacuum-packing should at least extend their ever briefer service lives.»

While the fall edition of Art in the Park is regularly devoted to just one young Swiss artist, its summer counterpart makes way for the really big names. Last June was no exception, with works by Joan Miró, Jani Leinonen, Marco Perego and David Smith set out on the lawn outside the Baur au Lac. The pre-eminent standard of the artists on display was splendidly matched by an illustrious public that brought a who's who of Zurich's high society together with household names from the international art scene and not a few famous collectors.
